Shakhtar Donetsk advances with ease in UEFA Cup

By: sasha | February 26th, 2009

Coming in with a solid two goal margin and with Tottenham resting many of its normal starting eleven, Shakhtar Donetsk had an easy time squeezing out a 1-1 draw that sees them through to the next round.

With clear intention not to give away their solid lead, Shakhtar Donetsk wasn’t prepared to risk attacking too far forward. However after the break Tottenham controlled momentum and took the lead five minutes before the hour when Mexican international Giovani dos Santos powerfully drove the ball into the net from the area. Coming close to bringing the aggregate even, Fernandinho scored with four minutes remaining, thus ensuring Shakhtar’s advance.

I doubt CSKA are going to go with a B-team like Spurs did. This should be the best battle of the next round.
