Ukrainian Premier League week 17 summary

Week 17 of the Ukrainian Premier League concluded with Dynamo still maintaining its three point lead on the table.

The Dynamo KyivDnipro Dnipropetrovsk match went down to the last minute with Dynamo winning 2-1. Pape Diakhaté opened the scoring late for Dynamo with eleven minutes remaining with Florin Cernat doubling the margin in added time. However Dnipro fought back with Ukraine capped Andriy Rusol drawing one back a minute later.

Ruslan Fomin scored the lone goal leading Metalist to a 1-0 victory over Tavriya Simferopol

Ukraine international Olexander Hladkiy scored seven minutes past the hour to provide Shakhtar Donetsk a 1-0 victory over Karpaty.

Chornomorets Odessa came from behind to defeat Metalurh Donetsk 2-1. MetaDon took the lead ten minutes into the match with Ricardo Fernandes‘ goal before veteran Olexandr Kosyrin equalized the match nine minutes before the break with Ruslan Levyha netting the winner at the fifty-fifth minute.

Vorskla Poltava defeated Zorya Luhansk 2-0. Jovan Markoski gave Poltava the lead twenty minutes in with Ukraine international Serhiy Kravchenko doubling the margin with thirteen minutes remaining.

Lviv defeated Illichivets 2-1 with a very controversial late penalty strike. Borys Baranets‘ opened the scoring just before the break before Olexandr Ivaschenko leveled the match with seventeen minutes remaining. However in a very late penalty call resulted in Ukrainian capped veteran Vladyslav Vashchuk stepping up to the spot four minutes into added time and netting the winner.

Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih defeated Arsenal Kyiv 1-0 with Olexandr Melaschenko adding the lone goal in added time.

Metalurh Zaporizhya defeated Kharkiv 2-0 as Dragan Perišić opened the scoring only twelve minutes into the match. Ukraine U21 Vitaliy Vernydub doubled the lead nine minutes later and Kharkiv weren’t able to break through.

The UPL is off now for the winter break and returns the first week of February. I’ll be back with reviews for UEFA Cup and Champions League matches not covered by the team blogs. Naturally I will provide additional updates with other newsworthy items as well.
